Ex-executive privilege

Copyright 2005 Ben S. Pollock

Monday, January 17, 2005: Days ago, George II brought in George the First and Bill Clinton to lead private fund-raising for the south Asian tsunami disaster of 12/26/04.

This is life imitating art!

"Saturday Night Live" has a periodic cartoon by one of its staffers– Robert Smigel — that is called "The X-Presidents." It started in the Clinton administration and has been broadcast less frequently in George II’s time. The President, capitalized, has a problem he cannot handle and calls in his predecessors, who have comic-book superhuman powers. They’re busily enjoying retirement, but when needed don the tights and capes and fly off.

Last week, Jimmy Carter was monitoring the Palestinian presidential election, and George I and Bill began public appearances and taping public service announcements to encourage the giving of charity. (President Ford is 91; Clinton told Larry King that Jerry is doing great but under doctor’s orders not to fly. That was to explain Ford not being at the Clinton Presidential Library dedication at the end of 2004.)

So there they are, The Ex-Presidents, without quotes that designate a fictional construct. Huh. -30-
