Briefly: The president said, most recently in this morning’s news conference, that Iran — officially or unofficially, maybe its government is behind it, knows about it, or knows-no-thing — is behind some weaponry used against U.S forces in Iraq.
You know, Iran’s sometime rival, sometime enemy Iraq.
Now we wait for the Senate. Will presidential candidates support the president? George II’s statements about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction and that Saddam had conspired with al-Qaida have been found wanting.
If 2008 presidential candidates (that’s the year, not the number of contenders), oppose the president’s latest claim and he’s right, they’re cooked. If they support him, give him the benefit of the doubt, and he’s cooked the books again, they’re cooked along with the books. Either party’s aspirants get simmered.
Time to look to those governors. -30-
