As an example here&#8217;s NPR&#8217;s report &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/itsallpolitics\/2015\/09\/11\/439448899\/on-colbert-an-emotional-biden-still-doesnt-sound-like-a-candidate\" target=\"_blank\">Emotional Biden Still Doesn&#8217;t Sound Like A Candidate<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As he&#8217;s said before then\u00a0again Sept. 10, the vice president&#8217;s loss of a son (former Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden) to cancer earlier this year has rocked his plans for what he does after he&#8217;s downsized Jan. 20, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>I saw\u00a0the interview and heard Biden say strongly but indirectly he remains too distraught to campaign then serve as\u00a0an effective president.<\/p>\n<p>Joe said he is not running, with sufficient clarity.<\/p>\n<p><big><em>But:<\/em><\/big><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->He&#8217;d hit the trail\u00a0just as soon as he checked the knot on his tie and smoothed his hair &#8212; as likely\u00a0would\u00a0former Vice President Al Gore &#8212; should Hillary Rodham Clinton&#8217;s bid collapse. Biden said nothing\u00a0close to that. How he acknowledged the\u00a0audience applause and his vigor throughout implied it.<\/p>\n<p>Clinton\u00a0is\u00a0no sure thing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2022 \u2022 \u2022<\/p>\n<p>Like all publications, <em>National Geographic<\/em> has been hit for years by financial problems. Its executives have found a solution, it was reported Tuesday: The nonprofit National Geographic Society sold the magazine and &#8220;related media assets&#8221; to a &#8220;partnership headed by 21st Century Fox,&#8221; <i>The Washington Post<\/i> reported. The main details are at media reporter Paul Farhi&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/lifestyle\/style\/national-geographic-magazine-shifts-to-for-profit-status-with-fox-partnership\/2015\/09\/09\/7c9f034e-56f0-11e5-8bb1-b488d231bba2_story.html\" target=\"_blank\">National Geographic Gives Fox Control of Media Assets in $725 Million Deal<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Social media posts &#8212; the ones I see, at least &#8212; are not happy, because Fox is often seen through one of its louder subsidiaries, Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>Because few can predict what will happen with the science-focused <em>NatGeo<\/em>, let&#8217;s be optimistic that the for-profit owners will keep its integrity intact. That is what makes <em>National Geographic &#8230; National Geographic<\/em>. After all, Fox has produced the consistently arch cartoon <em>The Simpsons<\/em> for decades. Also, Fox is like Wal-Mart, honoring what sells is what sells. A political point of view is a limited though lucrative market, and the overlords know that.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2022 \u2022 \u2022<\/p>\n<p>There are a lot of usually overlong\u00a0essays or columns by &#8212; and\u00a0sometimes about &#8212; college professors, instructors and adjuncts (the last refers to\u00a0higher-ed part-timers) &#8212; in recent\u00a0years.
